I once experienced the same message on SE/30 with Asante MC+30IET. It
worked fine previously with the same environment, but one day it complained.
At that time, the bootprocess did not stop but ae0 was unavailable.
I rebooted to MacOS and zapped PRAM with TechTool. After enabling 32 bit
addressing, NetBSD started to work correctly. The kernel was compiled from
the source around Dec. 7.
I don't know MacCon NuBus-A card, but I recommend you to try it again
after zapping PRAM.
