!?  I'm most definitely compiling kern_synch.c with gcc 2.7.2 on an m68k 
(in a "native" configuration ... not cross...)  It sounds like there 
might be something wrong...

Yah, NetBSD's cpp is different from GNU's.  Our /usr/bin/cpp is a shell 
wrapper around GNU's cpp, however, so you could probably use it.
