  I recompiled my SUN Xserver today with -g and (guess?) everything
works fine now. Maybe GCC optimized a code just a little too much? Try
to compile Xmacbsd code without optimization. I would do it myself if
I only had the code...

  I should admit my great degree of ignorance of Mac hardware, but I
do not understand the problems with X color support. I tried few things,
made the kernel report 256-mode video, switched to the graphics mode
and filled the whole screen with a nice palette. I do not know how to
change colors (and understand that those who know, do not tell, so it
is not in the code), but I would be happy to use whatever palette was
left over from MacOS. I can even put in my favorite palette before
booting. If some ioctl's are not realized yet, make them return 0 to
keep the Xserver happy. Or I was just lucky enough to get the simplest
hardware in my box?
