I'm guessing that you ungzipped the files before trying to install
(probably the case since I don't see a ".gz" extension on the file name)
or you grabbed the files in ascii mode instead of binary mode.  In either
case, the files could have gotten MacOS style end of line markings(carriage
return) instead of unix style(line feed).  This might cause errors similar
to those listed.  I haven't seen that error myself but have seen it
complained about
before.

You want to do all downloads and conversions in "binary" mode.  If that
appears to be the problem you can either download the files again or
convert the files to unix style end of line markings with any of the
following programs:

     BBEdit Lite, termy, MacLink Plus, and probably Stuffit Deluxe.

If you look through the recent mail archives, I think several other
programs were listed that will also do the trick.

If the above is not the actual problem, please post again and we'll try and
help you out.
