This is how I handle it:

In an open xterm:
su to root;
xconsole &;
exit


This creates an xterm that receives all those messages. I usually iconify it and never look at it again. There should be a way to do this in .fvwmrc or whatever you are using, but I haven't been able to figure that out, but then again, I can't get xdm to work either but that's me..
