OK, we got a lot further this time (probably out of Michael's hands.. 
thank's Mike!!)..  now the Classic II seems to be hanging somewhere in 
the MRG.. anyone up for getting some of jpw's adb code into this kernel?  
(Hey the list of non-working machines is shrinking fast!)

here's the output.. (whole thing by hand, might be one or two typos):
