General News
------------
Ok, if you haven't guessed by now we've got PB160/165/180 working video. :)
There are still ADB problems with these machines but I think JPW will work
on those machines when he can.
Confirmed Workings and Problems
-------------------------------
Classic II
There is still an artifacting problem on the last two lines and I'm still
waiting for feedback on it.
PB140/145/145B/170
I heard from one PB140 user that the backlight shut off. This problem
I'm sure is easily solved but it requires nosing around in hardware
space. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any one of those PowerBooks.
PB165c/180c
PB160/165/180
Unfortunately, I still haven't had any word from any Color Classic or LC520
users and I haven't heard much from the Classic II crowd since I got the
video working.
The only response I got from a Duo user wasn't very promising since I was told
the machine couldn't even serial boot. I'm considering dropping the Duo from
the project list until somebody at least gets one booting from serial console.
0.x Status
----------
There is still one more thing to add to 0.x: PowerBook external monitor support.
However, I need feedback from users who do this sort of thing so I can get a
confirmed boot.
Following PowerBook external support, which should be fairly easy to implement,
I think I'm going to clean up the code and call 0.x done and move on to 1.x
kernels. All the more reason to get in your test results if you're a LC520 or
Color Classic user!
If you're working on support for machines that don't yet work, have no fear.
The code in the 0.x kernels is quite simple and they set an example that
is quite easy to follow for any new machines that come along. I'm trying to
strive for flexibility in the code so that new machines can be added easily.
Other News
----------
I've been considering adding a 3.x kernel version for adding special video
features to the kernel. This would include such things as backlight control
for PowerBooks, brightness and contrast control for Classic II and Color
Classic users, and monitor sense line controls (sense lines may actually make
it into the 2.x kernels).
Thank you all for you great feedback! This project has been sucessful so far
and I hope it stays that way! :)
