It almost seems as if I have to manually retry something myself. For
example, I might try to tar cvvfp /dev/rst0 ./* to back the machine up to
tape. The first, and maybe second time, I'll get the above message, or an
I/O error. It also seems to occur when use mt. I have yet to get the mt
density command to work. The only other odd thing is that dump will get the
error, then suddenly give an end of tape message, and ask for the next
tape. Strange stuff indeed. FYI, I'm using the GENERICSBC-1 kernel. I had
some problems with the ncrscsi driver not working correctly with my FH
Fujitsu disk, but the sbc driver is great. The tape drive behaves similarly
under ncrscsi and sbc kernels.
