Pete,

Make sure the download was in BINARY or "raw-data" if using Fetch.  I 
usually cpin these files into my BSD Filesystem and then do the gunzip 
and untar under NetBSD.  For some reason the Installer doesn't always 
recognize all tar/gzip file formats, but NetBSD always seems to.
