I'd like to thank everybody who helped me out with my problem.

The problem was when I ungzipped and untarred the files. Apparently
StuffIt with Expander Enhancer doesn't do a good job. I made a NetBSD
partition on my external HD and used the Installer to ungzip and untar
the kernel. Then, when I booted the kernel from the NetBSD partition, it
worked fine.

I checked out the color X screenshot site someone posted here earlier,
and it looked cool. Where can I get color X, and will it work on a
Quadra 700 or LCII?
