Have you tried "dt"? It adds virtual consoles and fixes several annoying
VT emulation and ADB input bugs. In addition, it can be compiled to
display white-on-black text. To my knowledge, it works on any mac that has
working grf devices (i.e. any Mac that can run X can run dt). It's
somewhere in the puma.macbsd.com archive, and is at the top of my list of
useful NetBSD/mac packages.
