Hello!
I just have managed to install NetBSD. I=B4ve found
two mistakes in the installation-instruction. This
is one reason, why it takes four days to me to install
a running netbsd.
Don=B4t know who is responsible for the installation guide,
but here are my suggestions for the manual (marked with --):
...
...
Select "Mini Shell" from the "File" menu.
-- Make a directory for every additional filesytem
-- you want to mount.
-- mkdir directoryname
-- Example: you have a usr-partition so you create a
-- /usr directory with
-- mkdir /usr
Mount the filesystems you wish with the command:
mount device path
For example, if you wish to mount a usr partition from
the first scsi disk, sd0, on /usr, you would type:
mount /dev/sd0g /usr
-- If you have more than one partition you HAVE TO TYPE
-- fstab force
-- This is to include your additional filesystems in the
-- /etc/fstab (important for troublefree booting)
Type "quit" after you have mounted all the filesystems.
Installation of base files:
Select the "Install" menu item from the "File" menu and install
base12, netbsd, and any other packages you wish to install at
this time (see the contents section for information about what's
in each package). The installer will print out the filename of
each file as it is installed, and will take quite some time to
install everything.
--IMPORTANT: If you install NetBSD the first time you should also
install
-- the etc12 package.
...
...
That was it with the installation guide, (you better correct it and
use the right grammar, my native languages is german :-)
Now here are my experiences with the different kernels on my Q700
25MHz
20MB, 2MB VRAM, Quantum Fireball TM with AppleDriver:
G11, G15 -- login possible, when the screen is gone to white a few
lines at the bottom are left with the desktop-pattern of the
mac,
works with 640x480 and 832x624 with b/w and 256 colors.
G12 -- login impossible, got error messages "esp at line 1542:
unexpected
MESSAGES OUT Phase" after the try to login (maybe it was a
problem
with the G13 that i tried to install before, but the G13-file
was damaged
and the installer crashed, don=B4t know if it left the
filesytem untouched)
G16, G17 -- login impossible, system hangs after the screen gets white
and printed out the message "[preserving 292...]"
O.K. that was the work i=B4ve done the last few days. Hope that this
is
helpfull for the gurus of NetBSD/mac68k.
To all supporters, you=B4ve all done a very good job.
Merry X-mas, and a happy new year from germany,
Christoph
P.S. How do i setup a german keyboard layout ?
