Sure..  general preferences in X (I assume you mean X and not dt), are set
with the command xset.  So far, of all the different listed things you can
set, the only one that seems to work is the mouse (shrug).. "man xset"
Here's a good setting to start tinkering with:

xset m 7

(You can always put it in your .xsession or something)
