Subject: Shutdown problems?

I'm currently running from March 3 -current sources (I know, I'm a whole
week behind!). Everytime I run `shutdown -r now' the system hangs after
"syncing disks...".

I've done a shutdown without the -r, and then tried to unmount all file
systems with `umount -a' and it complains that /var is busy and of course
fails to unmount it. I then re-mounted /usr and did an fstat and the
only entry it showed for /var was the one that fstat had.

I've also booted up in single user, and mounted only the root fs (rw) and
/usr (rdonly). The reboot command hangs in the same place, syncing disks.

So, why can't I unmount my file systems and shutdown cleanly? :)
