Well, I think the 605 should be able to come up on black and white video
just fine. As far as color goes, though, the 605 uses the Valkyrie video
chip. Luckily, many of the 603e based PowerMacs also use the Valkyrie
chip so when those machines get supported under the Linuces (?) I should
have enough information to go on to build a color driver.
I think we'll really need to build a new X server to take advantage of
a chip like the Valkyrie. It can do multiple-page video and some other
neat things that should make X scream. I'm trying to redesign the interface
for the internal video driver so it's general enough to take advantage of
stuff like this.
