as something else to try, make a new user "toor" or something and give him
the same groupid, userid and home directory of root, except with the
change of shell. this would basically log you in as "root" but under a
different shell.
i do this on my system, anyone know if it's a bad idea? i don't have any
problems with it...
this also seems to work well with systems that have multiple
root-users...i like tcsh better than bash :)
you mentioned sunsite is big to search through...that's why you download
those recursive file listings, such as 00-Linux or something like that in
/pub/Linux . The stuff in /pub/Linux usually comes in source form and
makes it easy to compile for NetBSD, or any other OS. Once you download
that file to your computer, try a command line like
   "cat 00-Linux|grep bash|more"
that should get you some places where bash is found.
 good luck,
