Yep - the SLOTMAN kernel works fine. But there's (at least) one serious
problem with it. If you have an Ethernet card (at least, of the if_ae
variety), the new kernel messes up whatever initialization in done by
MacOS (prior to booting NetBSD). So, the NetBSD driver appears unable to
find the MAC address of the card, and fails to complete the NetBSD init
stuff. :( I don't know if the same problem occurs on if_sn ethernet
cards, since no one has yet tried it (as far as I know).
I'm at a bit of loss to work on this, though, since I don't have an
Ethernet card of my own. Any one want to loan one to me for a couple of
weeks? :)
For those brave souls that want to try the SLOTMAN kernel, it can be found
at:
ftp://ftp.whooppee.com/pub/slotman/slotman-kernel.tgz
This is a 1.2G kernel built from sources -current as of 20-September. The
source kit is also available via ftp from the same directory, as is a
modified version of Taras Ivanenko's grftest.c program.
