Yes, My C610 runs System 8. I can boot with extensions on (three rows'
worth, except with VM off) and with extensions off.

That seems to be where it starts probing for disks:
scsibus0 at esp0: 8 targets
sd0 at scsibus0 targ 0 lun 0: <SGI, SEAGATE ST51080N, 0950> SCSI2 0/direct fixed
Why it should work when booting from Sys7 and not Sys8 is beyond me. I've
heard that Sys8 needs the disk drivers to be updated, but I don't know if
that's true, or even pertinent...
