I did manage to get xearth compiled.  At first I put in the links to the 
headers, but that did not work for the libraries.  What I think finally 
did it was Colin's suggestion to use a 'xmkmf' command prior to 
compiling.  Thanks to Brad Salai for his suggestion to do a 'make 
install.man' to get the man pages where they needed to be.

BTW, on the traiiling '/', the system won't let you do it.  It returns an 
error of not a valid filename or directory (or something close to that).
