...just for clarification, "su" is not an account on the system. "su" is a
command (binary) that lets you switch users. "su" by itself defaults to
root, but "su guest" would give you a shell, run under uid of "guest". etc.
so when it says not to log in as root, and use su, it means to "su root" at
a normal user's shell (or "su", since root is by default).  This might not
be essential in your case, but on networked systems, with many users having
root access, the ability to trace (to some extent) who is using root and
who is not by looking in wtmp logs and in syslog might be useful to overall
administration.
Also (in case you don't know this already), netbsd uses password shadowing,
so be sure to use "vipw" to edit the password file, or use your favorite
editor on /etc/master.passwd and run pwd_mkdb.
