You do need MacOS to boot NetBSD, but you don't need much of MacOS. You can
setup a floppy disk to boot with. Make a copy of the disk tools floppy from
any version of System 7 that will run on your Mac, and dump the disk tools.
Add the Memory control panel, Mode 32, and your favorite booter. That
should leave you with a system that will boot your Mac and then boot
NetBSD. Your hard drive can be dedicated to NetBSD.
