Check your entry in /etc/passwd (you are using a local one, not a
net one, correct?) and check all the fields. NetBSD has some
fields (documented in man 5 passwd) which cover account
expiration. If your /etc/passwd entry looks like a normal,
4.2 or 4.3 BSD, passwd entry, there's bad stuff in the expiration field.
