I'm also having a similar problem. Which SCSI driver/chip is being found?
Mine says
esp0 at obi0 (quick): address 0x905000, NCR5c96: 16MHz, SCSI ID 7
At the present time, the work-around for me is to boot into single-user mode,
fsck
or
fsck -f
mount -a
exit
and all is well!
