Well, ftp.whooppee.com is my home machine, and sometimes I _have_ to boot
up into MacOS (like, to run Quicken to balance my checkbook!).  But it is
almost always up and reachable, unless the dial-up line to my ISP goes
down (and it seems to do this two or three times a day).

So, keep on trying!
