Has anyone got a deskjet 500c working under netbsd/makc8k? I need help.

I've installed ghostscript 5.10, and run lprsetup.sh, and put the
printcap.insert into my etc/printcap file, and I've restarted lpd.

when I try to print a file to the printer, it seems to go through the
queue, and sit there for a few seconds, with some temp files in the spool
directory, and then disappears, but the printer doesn't even twitch.

1) how do I find out what the baud rate should be for this printer?
2) should a standard Mac hardware-handshake modem cable work?

What else should I be able to do to test this? Is there a way I can bypas
ghostscript, and just confirm that the mac and the printer are even
communicating?
