Hi! I've just finished installing 1.3 over 1.3_BETA, and my results so far
seem pretty decent. I've only encountered a couple problems. Here they are:
Jan 6 14:51:46 acheron /netbsd: swap_pager_clean: clean of page 6a0000 failed
This is related to the SBC driver with reselect mode enabled. I *never* get
those errors with flags 0x1. Also, there weren't any other messages
flanking that one, and no ill effects seem to have occured. (Also, this
won't be of interest to the list, but it will be to you, Scott: The QUANTUM
drive refuses to work properly without SDEV_AUTOSAVE. With that enabled, it
operates without error, near as I can tell. I'm going to run this kernel
for a while, at any rate, so I'll keep you posted.)
On to more general stuff...
#echo -n 'checking quotas:'; quotacheck -a; echo ' done.'
#quotaon -a
I had to comment these out from /etc/rc because quotacheck consistently
dumped core. I got a message about a bad system call... I'm assuming that
this is because I didn't compile quota support into my kernel. Is there any
reason for me to run with quotas enabled? I just noticed that the GENERIC
kernels have quotas turned on... Hm. Um... Would it make sense for quota
support in /etc/rc to be a configurable item, controlled from /etc/rc.conf?
This would make sense to me, anyway, unless there's a good reason for
*everyone* to run with quotas.
Anyway. Another thing that came up was some core dumping and segfaulting
the first time I tried to open my ppp connection. Alas, I can't reproduce
this now. If I'm getting errors from the VM system, using the sbc scsi
driver (flags 0x5), then maybe this is related? But, like I said, I can't
seem to reproduce this now, try as I might.
Um... I can't think of anything else. Everything seems to have upgraded
nicely. (Incidentally, I like the new rc.conf... Prior to today, I'd been
running an /etc from circa June.)
Thanks, all, for a cool new release!
