This sounds really strange except if you are running NetBSD on an
LC040-based Mac.  Are you?  If so, you've been hit by the infamous FPE
bug.  Currently, the only immediate fix is to upgrade the processor to
a full 040.  Software fix will be available eventually, but not
anytime soon.
