I think you're right. Since every character received generates an
interupt, there's not much we can do. I'm actually surprised/pleased that
it's working as well as it is. :-)
I'm not sure that there's much you can do, other than possibly do the
transfer to the SE/30 and then to the other machine.

Given that Apole only promised 9600 baud, I think it's fine. :-)
I'm not sure about real 040 suppliers. :-(
