If /etc/aliases doesn't exist (did you remove it?), you need to reinstall
it. If it does exist, then the database built from it has gotten
corrupted or wiped out. Just run 'newaliases' as root and it should fix
this, I believe.

Also, the package system is a relatively simple way to compile just about
any program you want (and some precompiled binaries are available as
