I connected my two computers with a 10baseT UTP crossover cable so I could
FTP files between them and generally check out the networking.  I get a
reliable ping both ways, so the connection seems stable.  FTP from the
command line on NetBSD works great, with or without X running.  But when I
try to connect with the LLNL XFTP 2.0.4 program, the transfer times out.

Turning on "debug" in XFTP, I see that it logs in and makes a connection,
then does a DIR to get the contents of the current directory.  All the file
names come across, then XFTP times out waiting for something else to
happen.  It doesn't seem to see the "220" message indicating that the
action is complete...  This message comes across OK if I FTP from an xterm
or the console.

I'm using NetPresenz 4.1 on my other Mac as a FTP server.  It's a PowerMac
8100/100AV running MacOS 8.1 and OT 1.2.

The NetBSD machine:

20MB RAM

1GB hard drive partitioned 80MB HFS, 40MB swap, 100MB root, 750MB usr
NetBSD 1.3 w/SLOTMAN-MRG-SBC kernel#220

Any suggestions?  I tried messing with the prefs on NetPresenz and with the
XFTP program, but it still times out....  I've used the XFTP program with a
live network connection before and didn't have this problem, so I suppose
it could be  NetPresenz -- but I can't see what XFTP is doing that differs
from the standard ftp utility.
