i've used sox (see the NetBSD packages system if you don't know what this
is) and converted generic 8KHz sun .au files for use with this program.

	sox -r 8000 file.au -ub -r 22255 file.raw rate

feed file.raw to au.c and watch -- er, hear -- it work.
