Ok... I am having some wierd problems with my network. Namely,
pppd. I've tried 4 times to dialup my ISP and telnet to my mail server to
check my mail, and telnet just sits there being stupid, not even showing
me that it's trying to connect, making me lead to believe it's a DNS
problem. I've not had any problems with anything until just now.
I did a tcpdump -i ppp0 and here is an excerpt:
20:04:53.475601 206.163.4.144.domain > 192.112.36.4.domain: 58022 (44)
20:04:54.475553 206.163.4.144.domain > 128.63.2.53.domain: 58025 (42)

20:04:58.475345 206.163.4.144.domain > 192.203.230.10.domain: 58025 (42)

20:05:16.841055 [|ip]
627 packets received by filter
321 packets dropped by kernel
That was just the tail-end of the log I made. But, when I try to
use just an IP number, THAT won't connect either. And, a netstat -i hangs
at the ppp0 entry, leading me to believe there's something strange going
on with my ppp interface. Right now ppp is down and I'm using xminicom to
dial into my ISP... ick. Now that ppp is down, netstat -i gives me this:
brahms# netstat -i
Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs

Here's a pppstats:

I've never experienced this problem before... might it be just an
ISP problem? I've not changed any configurations in MONTHS and it's all
worked like a charm until today.... VERY odd!
