This question is related to both NetBSD & MkLinux.  Apologies if it's
bordering on off-topic for this mailing list.

A couple days ago, I was told that the early PowerPC laptops (PB1400,
5300, etc.) use a 53c80 clone for their SCSI.  I haven't had a chance to
confirm this....

Anyway, according to posts over the last few months, the Mach Kernel and
*BSD licenses are close enough that porting of drivers wouldn't be a
horrible thing....

Since I can't seem to reach anybody on the MkLinux team (kernel ppl or
otherwise), I was considering starting work on porting a 5380 driver into
MkLinux to support those machines, and the sbc driver came to mind.


Here are the questions:

1. would we be allowed to use NetBSD's 5380 driver and some of the sbc
   code that surrounds it in MkLinux?

2. what horrible problems should I expect to run into in the process?

3. would it be better to write a completely new framework to integrate the
   M.I. 5380 driver?

4. are there any details specific to any 53c80 clones that would prevent
   either the sbc code or the M.I. 5380 driver from working with those
   systems?

5. can anyone confirm that such a chip is actually in use in those
   machines?
