true, but this particular problem is occurring far before the disks are
even touched.

quite possible. however i'd be more inclined to say that perhaps 1.3.2
doesn't support your system? look at the release notes to be sure, but i
don't remember it being on the supported list.
however, if you turn on "extra debug messages" in the booter, perhaps
it'll print out a little bit more before it dies and maybe we can figure
out what's going on....
