I'm sorry -I misread your initial post :(

	I was describing how to tell programs under NetBSD to expect
	different sequences from xterms, rather than how to change the
	sequences that xterms send.

	You could change the termcap or terminfo settings on the
	host to which you are connecting.

	Hmm - xterm '-sf' will run with sun function keys, which may or
	may not be of any use here.

	To what type of host are you connecting, and what type of
	application is being run?
