Well I can't duplicate the pppd error message, but I would like to know a speed setting too put in the pppd string in ppp-up (Bill's kit). 19200 was in there, and I put a higher setting..after reading the man pages.. I have a 56k modem and connect by ppp and phone line... what is best?

still get the gethostbyaddr error, this time is was gethostbyaddr(207.173.246.46), also getting displays from portmap I think at startup in my log file connect to the local host addr. Is this normal as well? I don't remember portmap displaying that then before.

is this because I am not running a name server locally like some thought? I have no LAN, and only connect using PPP and the phone. Perhaps something is not set up, though my /etc/myname is now set right.
