Netatalk works flawlessly in 1.4.1. It could have been broken for
awhile in current... don't know.

Are you running three afpd's??? You need to
1) kill afpd, papd, atalkd, 
2) Copy the examples from /usr/pkg/share/examples/netatalk to
   /usr/pkg/etc, (review, and edit if necessary).
3) start atalk by running "sh /usr/pkg/etc/rc.atalkd"
4) Review the messages as the daemons start up.
5) Check the output of "nbprgstr" to see that afpd registered with
   atalkd. IIRC you should see at least "Bigmac" and
   "Bigmac:Workstation".
