I also am new to NetBSD; this is my second day. :) Anyway, last night I
had the very same problem. When you reformat and repartition your HDD (I
used Apple HD Setup), be sure to do a 'low-level format'. In HD Setup it's
in the Initialization Options dialog (you have to open it up by selecting
a menu item before going ahead with the initialization and partitioning
process). (Sorry I can't be more exact; I'm too lazy to reboot my Mac and
get the exact process down. This should point you in the right direction,
anyway.)
So, the above worked for me on the second go-round, and I'm happy with it
