i have emailed cabletron systems about the card, and _amazingly_ i 
received a reply stating that they were "looking into it"....

i don't have much faith in them actually replying with any 
information, but could it be possible that cabletron systems does 
something funky with their hardware that is messing us around? i 
really wish i wasn't walking so blind here...
