Urgh, the results don't seem to say much. 

o first server (solaris): telnet to was fast, telnet from was slow. ftp
both ways is fast

o second server (linux): telnet to/from both fast. ftp both ways is fast

o third sever (aix): telnet to/from both slow. ftp to is fast, getting
files from is slow.
