Subject: kernel without "options DDB"

Since I've been having so much trouble upgrading my IIcx's RAM past 8MB,
I've now turned my attention to building the smallest kernel possible so
as to free up memory for user programs.
I've manageed to shave quite a bit off without losing any functionality by
removing various unneeded options from the kernel config file. However,
when I remove 'options DDB', the resulting kernel will not boot, freezing
right after "no internal video at address 0 -- videoaddr is 0x########".
With DDB included everything works fine, but I was hoping to free up
another 50K or so. Is this a known problem? (I'm using the 1.4.2
release.)
Thanks,
