I don't think they are used in the GENERIC and GENERISBC kernels, but I 
they are used in the MRG kernels.  But at this point I think every Mac 
that runs with the old MRG code is now supported in GENERIC/GENERICSBC 
kernels, so this shouldn't be a problem for you.
