Hi folks,

I got the alpha kernel as a quick solution and it has made a remarkable 
difference.  Now that I can actually stand to use the machine, I'll probably 
compile a 1.5-current kernel.  Thanks very much for your help, it's 
refreshing to deal with real pros...
