I believe this means that the user id ghostscript is running under does
not have permission to write to the specified output file.

If you are redirecting the output to a file (or to the /dev entry for the
printer) make sure the permissions on the file or device node are set so
that gs can write to it.

Make sure you have your printer set up in /etc/printcap and use the -P
option to lpr to specify the printer name or set your PRINTER environment
variable.
