Hrm. I'm sure I don't know the message you're referring to, but I've
gone between -release and -current a few times on various different
archtectures (not including mac68k, though I can't think of any
port-specific reasons it'd be different) without a huge amount of
trouble.

I'd just make sure you build with a DESTDIR set, follow everything
in UPDATING to the letter, and just walk through steps when the
build hits a bump (because it *will*).

Keeping a backup of stuff that the build process may need to
overwrite from your 1.5.2 system (/usr/includes is a prime example)
so that you can bail your way back to a working system by way of
a boot floppy and some pax usage is probably a good idea.

Getting to current right now on mac68k probably won't be too hard...
there's a lot of upheaval in the tree, but none of it's near us.
(Mostly of Todd Vierling's fancy new toolchain stuff, which rocks,
but isn't entirely unkinked as yet.)
