Sysinst does have the hooks to do the upgrade and at least one person 
has been successful using it.  The upgrade can be done over a network 
connection too.  The best advice is to make sure you have a backup.  BTW 
you can also do the initial 1.6 installation over a network connection 
with sysinst.

Please remember that 1.6 for the mac68k has switched to ELF format.  
Previously the system, userland and packages were all in A.OUT format.  
The 1.6 system can run A.OUT binaries with proper libraries and sysinst 
attempts to do the necessary setup for you.  I haven't checked lately 
but there may not be any ELF format packages for the mac68k port yet.

Color xserver has never been a part of a standard NetBSD/mac68k 
distribution.  You will find the color xservers in the "arch/mac68k" 
directory on the NetBSD FTP server.  Since 1.6 switched to ELF you'll 
probably want to get the ELF version that is there.  I know it works on 
the 1.6 system on my Mac.
