Easier thing to do is stick an active Mac video to vga adapter on the port.
Works like a charm....Active meaning with dip switches... some of the
straight through adapters don't do anything for you.  I've got one on my
cable modem firewall (even though it is an 8100 PPC running YDL, it works
the same when that machine was a Quadra 840AV)
