I tried to upgrade from 1.6 to 1.6.1 but it went bad, so I formatted &
reinstalled. drastic solution, but /etc/fstab disappeared and other small
things.

with a clean system, I installed binary release packages of gnustep.
everything seemed ok, also the d/l dependencies seem rational.

the stupid thing is that everytime I try to launch an application (say,
ImageViewer, say an example) it segmentation faults.
Trying to debug yields no information: just "??" in a backtrace.
