I am not a licensing expert, but would it be permissible to read their 
technical report (and associated Apple documents maybe) without 
referring to their code and implement from scratch? Or would it even be 
permissible to read their code and implement from scratch? I guess a 
file system would be "small enough" to make a potential student 
project?
