This looks a lot like the problem Hauke and I started seeing in -current
after Mindaugas' changes to collect resoure usage from lwp0 context (those
changes themself are innocent, but seem to expose an older problem, which
you seem to be seeing even in netbsd-5).

The problem was very volatile for me, minor unrelated kernel changes make
it go away or come back, but with a given kernel it was 100% reproducable.

No clue yet...
